In its ongoing attempt to gross its readers out [1]over breakfast, Friday's op-ed page featured Rose George's paean tourine recycling,"Yellow Is the [2]New Green [2]," which follows Thursday's advocacy of scratchy toilet paper [1]- both in the name of saving the earth. An earth where one would be much less likely to shake hands.
George's op-ed came attached with this inviting text box: "Save energy, save water, save the oceans. Recycle urine."
George has written an entire book on human waste, and her long piece in Friday's Times will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about the wonderful world of urine disposal, including such gems as, "Human excrement is rich in nitrogen," and "A 19th-century 'sewage farm' in Pasadena, Calif., was renowned for its tasty walnuts." Yum yum.
