Ed Schultz Examines Why Heartless Republicans 'Claim to be Christians' But Are 'Mean' to the Poor

Liberal MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz on Wednesday examined a viewer question as to why heartless Republicans "claim to be Christians" while, at the same time, being "mean" to the poor. The Ed Show host ranted, "Well, they are mean to the poor because they don't recognize the poor. They think if you're poor and economically challenged in this country, it's your own damned fault." 

Schultz seriously entertained a Twitter question about conservatives. "Sue" wondered, "Why do Republicans claim to be Christians while being so mean to the poor?" Schultz assailed Christian conservatives: "Just look at the way they want to not support the budget and some of the social safety nets that are out there." [MP3 audio here. [1]]

This kind of liberal religiosity isn't new for Schultz. On December 5, 2013 [2], the host attempted to speak for God on what the Lord thinks of ObamaCare. He insisted, "I’ll tell you what I think God thinks of the Affordable Care Act: it’s a big amen."

ED SCHULTZ: Welcome back, appreciate all of the questions in the Ask Ed Live segment tonight. Our first question comes from Sue. "Why do Republicans claim to be Christians while being so mean to the poor?" Well, they are mean to the poor because they don't recognize the poor. They think if you're poor and economically challenged in this country, it's your own damned fault. That's how the Republicans view it. Just look at the way they want to not support the budget and some of the social safety nets that are out there. They think it's all about personal responsibility. In some cases, it is. But they broad brush the whole thing. I don't think they recognize the poor in this country.
