Short film ignores economics of renewables as celebrity environmentalist continues his green crusade.

Actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio continued to use his celebrity and skills in film to promote climate change alarmism with a recent series of shorts. His view that fossil fuels were the driver and mankind was responsible for climate change was as obvious as it was predictable.

The latest short film, “Green World Rising,” was released Oct. 30. It was the third in a series of four films by DiCaprio that sought to combat what it called the “scary climate problems that we face.”

On the face of it, the idea of the government being able to regulate how much carbon dioxide (CO₂) is emitted into the atmosphere seems absurd. After all, it’s a gas emitted by, among other things, human breathing.

That’s the point Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, was making when he criticized the new policy that requires the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate CO₂ – much to the chagrin of MSNBC “The ED Show” anchor Ed Schultz.

High gas prices may be eating away at Americans’ bank accounts, but at least they’re supposedly helping the environment. Leave it to NBC “Nightly News” to find a green lining in the dark cloud.

As American automakers struggle – with rumors even swirling about the possibility of General Motors going out of business – NBC’s chief environmental correspondent Anne Thompson found a positive in high gas prices because they are promoting the sale of fuel-efficient automobiles.

This time of year, global warming activists have another way to frighten the public – using steamy weather to suggest human greenhouse gas emissions are worsening a heat wave.

Stanford University professor Dr. Stephen Schneider told ABC’s “Good Morning America” June 9 that methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are making hot temperatures even hotter.

Conventional wisdom suggests that times of high economic growth would be the most appropriate occasion to enact legislation that could be very expensive for American taxpayers.

That’s not the case for Democratic California Sen. Barbara Boxer. Boxer, who is the chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and advocating the Lieberman-Warner cap-and-trade legislation, said a “recession” is the best time to do it because it will bring us “hope.”

Reporter/anchor Dan Harris introduced Dr. Fred Singer as part of the “denial machine” and accused him of trying to create a “mirage of a scientific debate” in the face of “broad scientific understanding.”

Usually the Bush administration is criticized for abuses of executive power. This time the media and Democrats in Congress are after the administration for not using its authority enough.

A report on the March 13 “CBS Evening News” about Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen Johnson’s appearance before the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming was very critical of the agency for not doing more “on limiting carbon dioxide, the most threatening greenhouse gas.”

A carbon emission-free energy source sounds like a grand idea, assuming it can compete at least somewhat with other sources of energy. When it costs four times as much, however, you’ve got a problem.

The media have really latched on to Alan Greenspan and his new book, “The Age of Turbulence.” Greenspan has appeared in all the major newspapers; he’s on the cover of Newsweek, been on “60 Minutes” and he even made an appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”

The focus has been his bashing of Bush’s policies, as the Associated Press described it in a September 15 story.
