60 Minutes journalist Lesley Stahl is apparently concerned about how such "out of the mainstream" Republicans ran in the 2012 presidential primaries, given what a "centrist" country America is.

Stahl moderated a New York Historical Society discussion on the state of the race. Time journalist Joe Klein appeared at the May 3 event to smear conservative groups as racist.

Zernike Claims Her Slanted Tea Party Book Was 'as Objective as Possible a Look'

Kate Zernike says she tried to be objective in "Boiling Mad," her book about the Tea Party: "I've just written this book that very consciously tried to come up through the middle...there was merit in saying, OK, we're going to take as objective as possible a look. And certainly, you know, conservatives think I'm not objective." That last sentence is true, for good reason.

Catching up with the Times' Tea Party beat reporter Kate Zernike at a post-election conference sponsored by the "Bipartisan Policy Center" in New Orleans on November 9: Zernike claimed she "very consciously tried to come up through the middle" in writing "Boiling Mad," her book on the Tea Party. Her defense of her own objectivity came nearly an hour into the discussion, aired by C-SPAN.

Jackie Calmes, impatient with Republicans for not sufficiently accommodating Obama during a time of national crisis (i.e. early in his presidency): "I'm going to go out on a limb, at the risk of sounding like I'm expressing an opinion. If there's one time I think people should accommodate each other, it's in times of national crisis. I think the period from late 2008 to early 2009 was just such a period. And I just want to give four examples as to where I think the Republicans did not accommodate....the health care bill. People talk about government takeover and how this was a liberal bill. Well, just ask the liberals how liberal it was."

While reacting to a reporters' question January 5 about the Democrats refusing to allow C-SPAN to cover health-care negotiations despite Obama's campaign promises to make the process transparent, Pelosi replied, "There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail."
