On Thursday, Charlie Rose invited singer-songwriter Neil Young on his PBS show to promote his latest album and played a clip of the Woodstock-generation singer’s first single - basically an anthem against Big Oil called “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” In the clip Young calls for the end of fossil fuel and fracking. Natural gas companies are guilty, whether or not they actually committed a crime, at least, when it comes Hollywood plotlines.

The March 16 episode of CBS’ “The Mentalist,” with the provocative title “Grey Water” focused on the murder of an anti-fracking activist and featured a natural gas drilling company as prime suspect through the episode. While the company was eventually cleared of the murder, “The Mentalist” still relied on hackneyed clichés about the natural gas industry, portraying it as corrupt and responsible for flammable water.

Hess Corp. and Newfield Exploration Co. give up on drilling in Upper Delaware.

Landowners are furious and Josh Fox is doing a happy dance, since it was reported on July 16 that Hess Corp. and Newfield Exploration Co. have notified property owners their drilling leases are no longer in effect.

The gas leases had been signed before the three-year moratorium on gas drilling in Wayne county and the Delaware River Basin area imposed by regulators with the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC). The companies did not comment about whether the moratorium played a role in their decision, but the property owners certainly think it did.
