The progressive city approved a $1 per stop tax on tech company buses that transport employees to the Silicon Valley.

President Obama announced liberal Princeton economist Alan Krueger as his new pick to chair the White House Council of Economic Advisers, as the president prepares for a speech on jobs after Labor Day.

The broadcast networks said nothing about the Aug. 29 announcement on the evening news programs (stories about Hurricane Irene ate up most of the time). The next day according to Nexis, only CBS mentioned Krueger's name in three news briefs about the appointment. None of those mentioned the failures of policies Krueger already worked on for Obama.

The liberal news media have long blamed tax cuts for deficit, rather than blaming government spending. CNN Money.com's senior writer, Jeanne Sahadi, repeated this worn out meme again on June 8.

Sahadi's piece cited 'two factors' that caused the national debt to "exceed the size of the economy this year:" lower GDP estimate than last year and of course … the tax cuts.

The Republicans took back control of the House of Representatives on Nov. 2, gaining more seats than the “Republican Revolution” of 1994. But the Democrats still have the majority for the lame duck session and there is plenty of legislation waiting for them.

Even if the election outcome does represent a mandate for “smaller, less costly” government as Rep. John Boehner, the likely new House speaker, said on Nov. 3, liberals in Congress may not obey it during the lame duck session that begins Nov. 15.
