CMI On TV – ‘Game of Thrones’ Throws too Much Gay at Viewers
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is at it again – with nudity and homosexuality.
Ser Loras Tyrell (Flinn Jones) – the valiant knight with whom Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) is in love – swings the other way. In seasons 1 and 2, we saw his homosexual exploits, and now he’s at it again.
In this episode, “Littlefinger” (Aidan Gillen) sends a male whore to seduce Loras and glean information from him. Loras obliges well, divulging that the Tyrells plan to marry Sansa to Loras, thereby taking the rightful heir to the North. Littlefinger tells Lord Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), the most powerful man in the kingdom.
Tywin foils the plot by arranging two weddings – his daughter Cersei (Lena Headey) to Loras, his son Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) to Sansa. With one stroke, he silences the Tyrells and usurps their claim to the North.
The intrigue is excellent, but the scene between Loras and the boy whore totally unnecessary. It isn’t even in the book, so the notoriously liberal George R. R. Martin is not to blame.
Nudity, not necessary to show that two men are gay, also hurt two other scenes in this episode: it weakened a cute love scene between Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and Ygritte (Rose Leslie) and soiled another excellent plot twist with Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).
