Deborah Solomon Disdains "Eager...Anti-Intellectualism" of McCain & Palin

Times reporter to libertarian intellectual Charles Murray: "Why is the McCain clan so eager to advertise its anti-intellectualism?"

Deborah Solomon conducted her weekly Sunday Magazine Q&A with controversiallibertarian intellectual Charles Murray, an interview headlined"Head of the Class." As usual, Solomon posed a series of hostile questions toward aright-of-center guest, whileMurray gave back as good as he got, making it an unusually entertaining entry.

In her questions to Murray, Solomon showed she's just as confusedabout what libertarians believe as she is about Christian conservatives (which she showed in her questions to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal back on August 31).

Some of Solomon's hostile queries to Murray:

"For nearly two decades, you've been at the American Enterprise Institute, the conservative think tank in Washington. Why would a self-declared libertarian, the party that glorifies individualism, spend his career on the dole?"

"Aren't think tanks basically welfare for intellectuals?"

"What do you make of the fact that John McCain was ranked 894 in a class of 899 when he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy?"

On Sarah Palin: "She attended five colleges in six years."

"Why is the McCain clan so eager to advertise its anti-intellectualism?"
