Frank Rich: "White Supremacists" Love Huckabee's Immigration Stand
In his latest Sunday column, "Latter-Day http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/16/opinion/16rich.html Republicans vs. the Church of Oprah," theatre critic turned political columnist Frank Rich meandered all over the stage, defending the histrionic Democratic analyst Lawrence O'Donnell's smearing of Mitt Romney's faith, pondering just what Oprah means to Obama, and wondering just how much trouble Hillary's campaign is in. But the climax was the standard cliché: Republican candidates are bigots. Rich even stooped to recycling criticism from his former No. 1 bogeyman, President Bush.
"But it just may be possible that the single biggest boost to the Obama campaign is not white liberal self-congratulation or the Clinton camp's self-immolation, but the collective nastiness of the Republican field. Just when you think the tone can't get any uglier, it does. Last week Mike Huckabee, who only recently stood out for his kind words about illegal immigrants, accepted an endorsement from a founder of the Minutemen, whose approach to stopping the 'illegal alien invasion' has been embraced by white supremacists and who have been condemned as 'vigilantes' by President Bush."
Get it? According to drama queen Rich, Huckabee = Minutemen = White supremacists, all in a single sentence.
