Jezebel Praises UK’s Rise in Abortions

Site claims reasons for abortion don’t matter, as long as more women getting them.

Abortion is often a polarizing issue, but even the average pro-choicer would agree that it is a morally difficult issue to deal with. Not the “Shiny Happy Ladies” of Jezebel. The site, which says it’s about “Celebrity, Sex, Fashion for Women,” is relishing the fact that, in the U.K., more married women are choosing abortion instead of motherhood.

According to Britain’s Office for National Statistics, this is the second year in a row that married women in their ‘30’s are increasingly getting abortions in the U.K. The Telegraph reports that as many as one in 10 married women get abortions. Jezebel writer Tracie Egan Morrissey took the opportunity to congratulate the UK’s universal health care system, which funds abortions, saying:

“Does the reason [for increased rate in abortions] really matter? The important thing here is that women in England, Scotland, and Wales are able to make their own choices with regards to their own bodies because they have access to that kind of treatment through the NHS, without the politically-imposed, moral red tape that plagues many states in America.”

OMG! America is like, so backwards! States that won’t pay for abortions? That’s, like, so 1990s! But hey, you go, British girls!

Jezebel writers have an obsession with snuffing out babies that’s nigh on religious. Recently Erin Gloria Ryan penned an article for the site calculating the ideal age to have an abortion, as if it was a rite of passage. And really, what woman would want to suddenly find herself beyond her child-bearing years without ever having gotten that abortion she’d always dreamed about?
