NFL’s Watt: Cops, Firemen Never Get ‘Enough Thanks’

Forget the Rams stunt, this Texan does credit to pro football.

Need an antidote to Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Rams players injecting politics into the game? Want something that lends a little perspective to the Ferguson mess?

On Monday, Nov. 24, Ferguson, Mo. police officer Darren Wilson was not indicted for killing Michael Brown. Rioters ran wild in Ferguson and protests popped up in cities across the U.S. The next day, as lefties demonized police and prosecutors, and race vulture Al Sharpton swooped into Ferguson, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt wasn’t buying …well at least not the lies the media and protesters were selling.

Instead he bought lunch for the Houston Police and Fire Departments; purchasing Papa Johns pizzas and sending along a handwritten note thanking them for all that they do. One of the firefighters tweeted out a photo of the letter and thanked Watt.

In the letter Watt wrote that his father and uncle were both firefighters and so he grew up spending time at the firehouse and “gained a great deal of respect for both Firefighters & the Police Force along the way.” He then thanked them, recognizing their courage and bravery.

He wrote, “Y’all show up day in & day out, never knowing what the day might hold and never getting enough thanks for what you do … and saving lives because of it.”

Watt recognized the men and women of the fire and police departments saying that it was them, along with the US Military, who “truly deserve the credit, appreciation and admiration” rather than, or at least above the athletes like himself who usually get the limelight and media attention.

Class act.
