For NYT Co., Helping Lefties Means More Than Just Reporting
When it comes to advancing a liberal agenda, New York Times Co. employees not only give at the office through the paper's slanted reporting, but also through the New York Times Company Foundation, which matches donations by NYT Co. employees -including many madeto leftist environmental and "journalism" groups.
The company website describes the Matching Gifts process this way: "The Foundation administers the program by which The Times Company matches gifts by full-time employees, directors and retirees to qualifying organizations. The match is $1.50 for each $1 contributed, up to an annual limit of $3,000 in gifts each year."
Besides the predictable $2,543 matching grant to the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association, the Times Foundation also bestowed matching gifts in 2006 on avowedly left-wing "journalism" groups - $210 to the left-wing news program DemocracyNow Productions, hosted by Pacifica radio standby Amy Goodman, and $750 to the Nation Institute, affiliated with the far-left Nation magazine.
On the environmental front, the Foundation gave a direct grant (no employee matching required) of $7,500 to the left-wing Natural Resources Defense Council and modest matching gifts to truly radical environmental groups, most noticeably the Earth Justice Legal Defense Fund and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
