Obama Says: Get Your Liberal Opinions at the New York Times
Get your liberal spin on the news from the New York Times. That was President Obama's suggestion at his commencement speech at the University of Michigan on Saturday, part of his advice captured by the paper's headline: "President's Plea to Graduates: Be Civil, and Keep an Open Mind."
Helene Cooper covered the speech:
"If you're someone who only reads the editorial page of The New York Times, try glancing at the page of The Wall Street Journal once in awhile," he said. "If you're a fan of Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh, try reading a few columns on the Huffington Post Web site." Mr. Obama has followed his own advice, a White House spokesman said afterward, and tunes in to his critics on the cable television channels, particularly when he has time during travel on Air Force One.
The story's text box portrayed Obama as above the partisan fray: "Inside, a call for dialogue. Outside, shouts of 'socialist.'"
