Polar Bare: Stripper Sheds Costume to Heat Up Global Warming
Climate alarmists seem willing to bear everything to promote their end-of-the-world hysteria. Now, one activist is willing to bare it, as well - stripping while dressed as a polar bear.
The left-wing eco-site Grist published an interview on Jan. 14, promoting the "burlesque dancer" Una Aya Osato, and her unusual method of environmental protest.
Osato discussed her own striptease performance, which she hopes will spread awareness of dying polar bears due to global warming. For Osato, "it's about pushing the comfort zone where it's sexy, and then - oooh, it's sad. OK, nevermind. Not sexy."
Osato, known as "the exHOTic other," described the bear facts of her environmental strip show, which she calls "PolarBare." Osato emerges dressed as a polar bear that is too hot, due to the effects of global warming. She then begins stripping to the tune of "Winter Wonderland." Eventually, while stripping, the bear catches a toxic fish and dies.
This is apparently not just a typical striptease involving animal costumes, as if that were possible. Instead, it is intended to demonstrate that "the polar bears are going to die." Osato has also used burlesque to promote other political commentary such as "questions about the Earth, destruction, and human rights."
Osato defended her "medium" as providing a "fun" way to protest, saying "It's bringing the fun back into it all." She also claimed that burlesque dancing is a particularly appropriate tool for political commentary. "It's this medium where there's a history of political commentary. It's right for it."
It doesn't appear that Osato or Grist addressed any of the many complexities within the climate change debate. They certainly did not discuss evidence that polar bears are not actually dying in significant numbers. Perhaps, that's only until they see her performance.
Osato was introduced into burlesque dancing by Miss AuroraBoobRealis who had co-founded the troupe, Brown Girls Burlesque. The two met in New York City, where Miss AuroraBoobRealis was "very kind to [Osato] while [they] were in jail."
Beyond bizarre alarmist promotions, Grist has a history of viciously attacking skeptics of man-made global warming. In 2006, Grist staff writer David Roberts attacked climate change skeptics, advocating "war crimes trials for these bastards - some sort of climate Nuremberg."
Grist is part of the Soros-funded Media Consortium where 67 separate left-wing media outlets network and share ideas, as well as cross-promote stories. Other members of the consortium include such liberal outlets as The Nation, Democracy Now! and Mother Jones. The consortium has also received $675,000 in Soros funds since 2000.
