CBS and NBC Continue to Ignore Federal Judge Overturning D.C. Gun Ban
On Saturday, July 26, federal judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. ruled that Washington D.C.’s ban on carrying a gun in public was unconstitutional and since the decision the “big three” networks have remained virtually silent on the Second Amendment victory.
Beginning Saturday night and continuing through the evening of Monday, July 28, only ABC’s Good Morning America has acknowledged the ruling. ABC’s Ron Claiborne gave the story a scant 18 seconds on Sunday morning whereas all of the CBS and NBC morning and evening newscasts, as well as ABC’s World News have ignored the story altogether.
During a news brief on July 27, Claiborne noted how “it is now legal to carry a gun in the nation's capital. On Saturday, a federal judge overruled Washington, D.C.’s ban on carrying weapons, guns that is, declaring it unconstitutional. The court ordered the city to stop enforcing its current gun control law and allow residents and visitors to carry a gun in public.”
From the Washington Post:
In his ruling, Scullin said that, based on recent decisions, “there is no longer any basis” to conclude that the city’s “total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional.” Scullin said he was stopping enforcement of the law “unless and until” the city adopted a constitutionally valid licensing mechanism. The suit against the city was filed by four named plaintiffs and the Second Amendment Foundation, which is based in Washington state.
