WashPost's King Claims to See 'Visceral Hatred' from GOP, Obama Has to 'Just Die' to Please Krauthammmer
Appearing as regular panel member on Friday's Inside Washington on PBS, as he recounted former President Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention, liberal Washington Post columnist Colby King claimed that "the amount of hate that the Republicans have for Barack Obama is just astounding," calling it "raw, visceral hate."
A bit later, after right-leaning panel member Charles Krauthammer offered criticism of Michelle Obama's speech, King lambasted him for not giving the First Lady a pass from substantive analysis and ended up gratuitously suggesting that dying was the only thing President Obama and wife Michelle could do to make the conservative Krauthammer happy. King:
When it comes to the Obamas, for goodness sakes, they do nothing right. I'm prepared to just go ahead and accept that from you, Charles. They do nothing right. Maybe the thing that they could do that would make you happy, maybe they should just die.
Below is a transcript of the relevant portions of the Friday, September 7, Inside Washington on PBS:
COLBY KING: I think one of (Bill) Clinton's lines really hit home. The amount of hate that the Republicans have for Barack Obama is just astounding. It's not just political differences, it's really raw, visceral hate. And you hear week after week, day after day, moment after moment, to the Fox crowd.
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: That is complete rubbish. I haven't heard one Republican use the language that the leader of the California delegation used in describing Paul Ryan as the Goebbels of our time, as a Nazi. He actually had to excuse himself and return home after that because of a previously scheduled root canal.
KING: If you are attempting to say that you have not heard visceral hatred expressed toward Barack Obama, then we may as well stop the show, may as well take off the mikes and go away.
(...)
KING: I just can't believe he's going after the man's wife. I can't believe he did that, but he did, but he did. Now, did you offer similar comments about Ann Romney's speech as well?
KRAUTHAMMER: It was a different speech by a different woman.
KING: But did she not also talk about her husband, his feelings, empathy? But no, let's not do that because we're talking about the Obamas, and this, when it comes to the Obamas, for goodness sakes, they do nothing right. I'm prepared to just go ahead and accept that from you, Charles. They do nothing right. Maybe the thing that they could do that would make you happy, maybe they should just die.
