Surprise! Liberal Media Bash ‘March for Marriage’
It’s an uncommon chant to hear in downtown D.C.: “One woman, one man! One woman, one man!”
The National Organization for Marriage hosted the second annual “March for Marriage” in front of the Capitol on June 19. The event, a self-described “vehicle for voicing the values of pro-marriage Americans in a way that cuts through the biased media narrative and demands hearing in the halls of power,” brought together thousands of traditional marriage supporters. But will the media report on this – the singing, cheering crowds? Or will they focus on the counter protesters? MRC provides photos below to show the signs from both sides:
And here are the counter-protesters, who made up roughly 10-15 people of the thousands who attended:
Of course, the liberal media had a field day covering the march, painting it as anti-gay. The Washington Post’s headline read “Thousands Rally at U.S. Capitol Against Gay Marriage” (not, you know, “Thousands rally to support traditional marriage.”) RawStory also noted the “Opponents of same-sex marriage” along with San Francisco Chronicle’s SFGate describing “thousands against gay marriage.”
Sanfran’s CBS Local bemoaned, “Despite Criticism, San Francisco Archbishop Cordileone Speaks At D.C. Rally Against Same-Sex Marriage.”
The Daily Beast sported a more clever title: “Crucifixes, Gorillas, and Adult Diapers: My March Against Gay Marriage.” Gawker came in second with “NOM's Anti-Gay March for Marriage Was Pathetic.” Trying to join the creativity, Slate described, “Mourning at the March for Marriage.”
One exception was Jeff Jacoby's column in the Boston Globe, which was headlined 'Marriage and the ‘Wrong Side of History.'"
But Jacobyis clearly in the minority amoung his media peers. Like last year, a search of the networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) for “March for Marriage” provided not a single result.
