Bozell Calls on CBS to Follow Examples Set By Washington Post, CNN and New York Times - Press Release - September 17, 2004 - Media Research Center
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell called on chief executives at CBS to follow the examples set by the Washington Post, CNN and the New York Times when dealing with scandal: own up to the wrongdoing and take action against those responsible no matter how high it goes.
When confronted with scandal all three of these news organizations admitted the wrongdoing and took definitive action against those responsible. CBS must do the same, Bozell said.
Bozell pointed out that the Washington Post fired Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Janet Cooke for fabricating her award-winning story. CNN ultimately released reporter Peter Arnett for his false report on Operation Tailwind, the network also fired the producers of that story. The New York Times fired reporter Jayson Blair for his fabricated stories as well.
These three scandals were twinkle-toes compared to an effort to smear the President and cost him the election.
CBS is going 180 degrees in the opposite direction from these other establishment media organizations by not only refusing to own up to the fraud they have helped perpetrate, but by allowing it to continue by refusing to concede the wrongdoing. To salvage any measure of the credibility they have left, CBS must provide a full accounting of how this happened, divulge the source behind this fraud and take definitive action against those responsible no matter how high it goes, Bozell concluded.
