Bozell: Don't Believe The Myth of Democratic Politeness in Boston - Press Release - September 2, 2004 - Media Research Center
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell offered this response to Wednesday nights prime-time Republican National Convention coverage:
There is nothing funnier than the network spinners today trying to suggest, as ABCs Charles Gibson did this morning, that Democrats might now question their politeness to President Bush at their convention. Which convention did they watch? Were they in Boston, or some other city? To them, Democrat-bashing speeches are harshly negative and unfair, but equally Republican-bashing speeches are simply unifying and energizing.
They must have missed Jimmy Carter in Boston. Carter said unlike Bush, Kerry showed up for Vietnam. He said Kerry would restore maturity and judgment to the White House. He said Bush has an unbroken series of mistakes and miscalculations. But CNNs Aaron Brown said It's hard to imagine shrill and Jimmy Carter in the same sentence.
They must have missed Al Sharptons speech, when Sharpton implied President Bush would have been a racist segregationist 50 years ago. Peter Jennings began ABCs prime-time coverage by showing an excerpt and hailing the Bush-trashing address: This convention hall tonight has been energized...by a truly turned-on preacher.
Remarkably, for the first time ever, initial ratings reports show Fox News Channel drew a larger audience than the big-time broadcast news operations. The media elite will quickly suggest its due to the conservative slant of Fox. Thats wrong. It is the liberal slant of the others, driving millions of viewers away to find a less Kerry-boosting alternative.
