The "Capture" of an Israeli Soldier by Hamas?

Was Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit "kidnapped" or merely "captured"?

Pro-Palestinian [1]reporter Steven Erlanger "captures" the paper's anti-Israel tone well in Monday's story, "Hamas Reports Progress On Freeing Israeli Soldier [2]."

Erlanger's story includes five references to the kidnapped Israeli soldier,Cpl. Gilad Shalit, as being "captured," as if the two sides were in a hot war and Shalit was a legitimate prisoner of war. In fact, Shalit was kidnapped when Hamas unilaterallyattacked an army post in Israel after crossing the Gaza Strip border, killing two soldiers as well.
