If you were hoping the Miley Cyrus VMAs fiasco reflected a temporary, er, lapse in the singer’s judgment, her new music video, “Wrecking Ball,” should demolish those hopes.
In the video released Monday, the former Disney darling donned a belly-baring top with underpants for a make-out session with a sledgehammer – before stripping naked. The song served as the second promotional single for Cyrus’ latest album “Bangerz,” [1] set for release October 8.
The only explanation for Cyrus’ conduct came from the lyrics [2]: “I came in like a wrecking ball/ I never hit so hard in love/ All I wanted was to break your walls/ All you ever did was wreck me/ Yeah you, you wreck me.”
Yes, someone wrecked her, all right.
The video boasts as director Terry Richardson – an infamous photographer accused repeatedly of [3] sexually exploiting young women in the fashion world. The controversy seemed to only fuel the song’s attraction, with over half a million YouTube views [4] by the end of Monday.
Cyrus recently stole headlines for her VMAs performance, complete with foam finger “twerking. [5]”
