More Imbalance in Illegal Immigration Coverage

Why have the "liberals" abandoned the debate over illegal immigrants?

There was a bit of labeling imbalance in Rachel Swarns' Thursday piece on immigration, "Bush Aides [1]Pledge Work for Immigration Bill [1]."


"The citizenship measure has been derided by conservatives as amnesty and hailed by some Democrats, Republicans and immigrant advocates as a provision that will encourage millions of illegal immigrants to come forward."


Strange how the Times constantly finds "conservatives" in the debate over amnesty for illegal immigrants, but "liberals" hardly make an appearance. Perhaps they're content to concede the issue to "immigrant advocates."


In two articles last August, Swarns fretted over the fact that the Republican leadership was - gasp! - engaging [2] in politics [3] over illegal immigration.
