Gay TV Characters More Than Triple Since 2007

The gay agenda is growing rapidly in prime time. With the fall line up now in full swing, homosexual characters have more than tripled since 2007. Even that's not good enough for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation GLAAD.

Just two weeks into the fall television season and GLAAD's statistics are in. “The number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) characters on prime time U.S. television is growing, with 58 regular LGBT roles on network and cable shows this season.”

Don't think that Hollywood has a gay-agenda? GLADD reports that “23 LGBT characters will account for 3.9% of scripted series regulars in the 2010-2011 broadcast television schedule, up from 1.1% in 2007, 2.6% in 2008, and 3% in 2009.” For viewers, that's a more than 250 percent increase in just three years.

Jarrett Barrios, President of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), states that the increase in gay and lesbian characters indicates a “shift in American culture toward greater awareness and understanding of our community." But is it really a sign of a shift in cultural attitudes? It sounds more like the pro-gay voice in Hollywood is simply getting louder.

Barrios added that “what people see in the media has a huge impact on how they understand others and perceive themselves.” That's very true with both the Hollywood agenda and what GLAAD expects from TV.

What's next on Hollywood to force widespread homosexual acceptance? GLAAD speaks for itself.

The organization “lamented the fact that there were no black LGBT characters on network comedies and dramas.”
