Lefties Accuse Kirk Cameron of Hate Speech for Christian Beliefs
There’s nothing the Hollywood left prizes more than the right to free expression. Just not Kirk Cameron’s free expression. The former “Growing Pains” actor appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on March 2, where the host prodded him relentlessly about his traditional, Christian stance on gay marriage. When he didn’t back down from his beliefs, Hollywood screamed for him to be silenced.
Cameron told Morgan, “"Marriage is defined by God in the garden between Adam and Eve, one man, one woman for life, til-death-do-you-part", and said he would never attempt to re-define marriage – he did not support gay marriage because of his Christian beliefs.
The reaction from Hollywood liberals was swift and over the top.
A plethora of celebrities and many of his former co-stars pounced. Gossip blogger, bully and gay activist Perez Hilton wasted no time in labeling him a "bigot" who suffers from "homophobia."
Roseanne Barr tweeted that “kirk or kurt or whatever cameron is an accomplice to murder with his hate speech. so is rick warren. their peers r killing gays in uganda.” That would be the Rosanne Barr the anti-Semite who recently called for beheading the rich right here in the U.S.
The gay rights group GLAAD struck back with charges that Cameron “sounds even more outdated than his 1980s TV character” and that he is “out of step with the vast majority of Americans.” They launched a petition called "Tell Kirk Cameron To Finally Grow Up", because of his so-called “hateful” remarks.
Joy Behar, co-host on “The View,” agreed that Cameron should have the right to free speech but expressed he should "just shut up" anyway.
Piers Morgan actually seemed to come to the defense of Cameron, tweeting that his testimony was “brave,” however Morgan couldn't resist a final jab at the Christian actor stating that “barbarus” is brave’s Latin origin.
Fran Drescher, star of “Happily Divorced” lectured Cameron in civics, telling CBS he should "reexamine what it is to be an American."
At the end of the day, Cameron refused to be bullied and called the left out on their hypocritical double-standard.
He told ABCNews.com, “I should be able to express moral views on social issues, especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years — without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach ‘tolerance’ that I need to either bend my beliefs to their moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square.”
