Is the Times burying good economic indicators? The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 391 points on the opening day of the second quarter , meriting a story on the front page of Business Day Wednesday. But the headline over Michael Grynbaum's story didn't even mention the stock rise, just vague "optimism": "Wall Street Shows Optimism That Crisis Is Burning Out."
By contrast, last November 8, the day after the Dow dropped 360 points, the paper made the falling stock market its lead story (written by Grynbaum and Peter Goodman). The headline was specific: "Markets and Dollar Sink As Slowdown Fear Grows."
