Music Producer Slams 'Soft Pornography' of Pop

Credit Mike Stock for saying what a lot of us were thinking.

Stock, a legendary English music producer, warned parents this week much of today's popular music is dangerous for kids because of the sexual and violent themes.

“Ninety-nine percent of the charts is R n' B and 99 percent of that is soft pornography,” Stock told the Daily Mail. “Kids are being forced to grow up too young. Look at the videos. I wouldn't necessarily want my young kids to watch them.”

Stock said he is “being told by mothers of young kids they're worried by the pressure on them for their children to wear [revealing] clothes and make-up at a young age.”

Stock said defending a sense of modesty and class in pop music is “not about me being old fashioned. It's about keeping values that are important in the modern world.”

Stock specifically cited stars like Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and even Madonna as purveyors of sexualized content aimed at a pre-teen and teenage audience.

Cyrus, once famous for openly advocating abstinence until marriage, has stirred controversy by posing for provocative photos when she was only 15 years old, wearing revealing clothing on her concert tour, and for giving a lap dance to 44-year-old producer Adam Shankman.

Stefani Germanotta, who goes by the stage name Lady Gaga, has also made headlines promoting abstinence. Yet she regularly wears revealing clothing, features homoerotic, S&M, and anti-religious imagery in her music videos, and sings about sexual themes.
